How to start up a GFR in your country?

Every country can start up a Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (GFR).
There are already well structured associations for golfing Rotarians, like Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and others.

They promote Rotarian Golfers to join the Golfing Fellowship and most of them organise an annual tournament.
They also promote the Rotary clubs in their country to plan and organise golf events for fun and sometimes also to raise funds for their projects.

However most of the other countries in Europe do not have a structured Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians association yet.
Therefore it is highly recommended for them to start up their own association as most of the Rotarian golfers not even know that the ‘Golfing Fellowship’ is one of the 75 social groups within Rotary International.

The International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians, IGFR, was founded in St. Andrews (Scotland) in 1964.
IGFR is the umbrella organisation that guides and promotes the golfing fellowships worldwide through the 6 continents:
Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North & South America.
IGFR organises since 1964 every year an IGFR World Championship.

The Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians – Europe fully supports all GFR countries in her territory, also the ‘GFR start ups’ through her powerful new website and opens possibilities to attract sponsors.
Newsletters will also be sent by GFR Europe to all the country members by MailChimp.
The first step to become a GFR country is to register as a country member within GFR Europe by recruiting 4 enthusiast Rotarian Golfers who want to promote the Golfing Fellowship in their country.

Procedure to establish your own Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians:

  • Contact 3 Rotarian Golfers, from different Rotary clubs and from various corners in the country if possible.
  • Have a meeting with them to establish your GFR and to install your executive committee.
  • Define the board functions: 1 president, 1 secretary, 1 treasurer and 1 PR & communication manager.
  • Send underneath application form to GFR Europe.
  • Send a mail to info@rotary.golf with a ‘high resolution’ photo from every member of your committee.
