Rtn Gaston Barras from Crans Montana – Switzerland is one of the pioneers of our Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians.
Together with the late Rtn Carl. P. Miller, a Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Los Angeles – USA, he was one of the active founders of IGFR that was established in 1964 during a meeting in St.-Andrews – Scotland.
11 years later, in 1975, Gaston Barras himself founded the European branch within IGFR: GFR Europe.
Today, September 25th 2018, is a moment to commemorate the considerable impact of our friend Gaston in the history of our fellowship.
Last January 2018, I had the pleasure to visit Gaston in his hometown, accompanied with our treasurer Jean-Paul Rey.
Notwithstanding his blessed age of nearly 90, Gaston is still in good shape, wide awake, and very interested in what we are doing and what we are planning.
Through this news item we want to express a most sincere “THANK YOU” to him for creating this fellowship which has meant so very much to all of us during our lifetimes and certainly for all future Rotarian golfers.
Gaston is to be complimented and congratulated for his extraordinary vision and foresight in establishing this highly important and most rewarding fellowship organization which has been an outstanding success over the past 56 years, resulting in numerous personal friendships as well as creating better understanding and goodwill among people and nations.
May the start of our new and quite innovating communication system, through our new website and our newsletters, gives a boost to his Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians – Europe.
We promise him that we will keep his legacy in a perfect condition and take care of it in the coming years and decades.
Thanking you very much Gaston, on behalf of our board members and on behalf of all the Rotarian golfers worldwide. (LS)
